Spirit of the Fallen

Since 1828, more then 260 officers have given their lives in the line of duty in Philadelphia, home of the oldest municipal police agency in the United States, and the fourth largest municipal law enforcement agency in the country (behind the NYPD, Chicago Police Department, and LAPD). In just over a year spanning from October 2007 to February 2009, six Philadelphia Police officers were killed in the line of duty during various crimes. Those lost were Officer Walter Barclay, Officer Charles Cassidy, Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski, Officer Isabel Nazario, and Officer Patrick McDonald, who was posthumously promoted to Sergeant, Sergeant Timothy Simpson, and Officer John Pawlowski.

About the Project:
Spirit of the Fallen is both a tribute to the fallen officers of the Philadelphia Police Department and a fundraiser for the FOP Survivor’s Fund! It is a photographical exhibit that will depict various dancers from the Philadelphia area including some from the Pennsylvania Ballet and some who have direct ties to law enforcement. The dancers were photographed in various locations, both studio and urban settings, with angel wings. The dancers, with wings, symbolize the “spirit of the fallen” officers. We will tour this exhibit throughout the area during 2010 and support it with a website and facebook page. It will culminate with a 2011 12 month calendar.

OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE $10,000 for the FOP Survivor’s Fund!

To help fund the project, we will accept donations at the various exhibits and will make limited edition prints available for sale. The dancers and photographer are donating their time and services for this project.
